SUMMARY:HOLIDAY SHOW at STUDIO;SPACE
DESCRIPTION:South Jersey Players in association with SPQR Stage Company\, will present BIG LOUIE IS COMIN’ TO TOWN by Jeff Dunne and directed by Marlene May. \nIn this short 15-minute comedy\, Santa Claus (Edward Shakespeare) may think he has the whole “make the kids happy with gifts thing” in the proverbial bag – but just wait! Big Louie (Joe Chialastri) is moving in on his game and is pretty sure he has a better business model that’ll knock Santa right out of the Macy’s display windows. The action takes place in the McAllistor’s living room on Christmas Eve. \nMAGIC FLOWERS\, the short and sweet 30-minute original play by local playwright\, Bill Sterritt\, takes place on Christmas Eve in Manhattan. The story follows co-workers in an advertising agency\, Ethel and Ralph\, who seem to have nothing in common outside of the office. Ralph\, portrayed by Erik Olsson\, is wholly popular\, while Ethel\, played by Laura Cybert\, prepares to spend yet another Christmas Eve alone – with a bottle of wine\, that is. An unexpected shabby-looking guest arrives at Ethel’s door selling flowers. Feeling sorry for the obviously homeless gent and for herself\, she buys his “magic flowers”\, as he claims they will bring her love. \nMAGIC FLOWERS has become a holiday tradition for Atlantic and Cape May County audiences. With the addition of BIG LOUIE IS COMIN’ TO TOWN\, SJP and SPQR Stage Co. promise a light-hearted\, witty\, holiday package – two plays for the price of one! \nTickets are $20.00 per person. Reservations can be made by email at: spqrstageco@aol.com or by phone at: 323-793-2153. For info\, and live streaming tix go to: www.studio;spacespnj.com

SUMMARY:DINNER THEATER AT AROMA '22
DESCRIPTION:Visionary\, Marlene May\, President of South Jersey Players\, Inc. – a non-profit community theater\, has been yearning to present dinner theater in Ventnor\, NJ for some time. \n    SJP\, Inc. was founded in 2017 and incorporated in 2020 with the mission of promoting local playwrights featuring local actors in short plays. Most recently\, SJP presented Plays in the Park at the new Ventnor Memory Park and Park Plays at the Margate City Public Library’s ‘Under the Tent’ series. \n    The elegance of Aroma’s dining room with its linen-covered tables\, art-filled walls and the Northern Italian cuisine was what first drew Marlene’s interest in this restaurant. The theatricality of the interior structure\, with a 10-foot-long archway dividing two dining areas further peaked her imagination\, and generated an initial meeting with owner\, Tony Hoda in late August 2021 to propose a dinner theater. \n    Together\, Tony\, Marlene and SJP\, Inc.’s board member\, Edward Shakespeare\, reimagined the current set up to include a buffet on the south side of the restaurant\, with a dining area on the north side. The archway would outline the actor’s playing space for five original one-acts. Once ticket pricing and show dates were agreed upon\, SJP purchased a portable pipe and drape system to function as a back-drop for the actors\, to be assembled just behind the arch. LED lights and a portable sound system will further enhance the audience’s viewing experience. \n    Manager\, Kelly Cannuscio and Marlene continued to meet regularly with input from Chef Erjon (as well as check ins with Tony) regarding the buffet menu\, reservation    requirements\, dress rehearsals\, storage for equipment and a green room for the actors.          Technical Director\, Jim Erickson – a Chartertech High School teacher\, also engaged in discussions regarding the appropriate placement of the lighting and sound equipment. \nThe Aroma team’s enthusiasm for this venture and the South Jersey Players loyal local company are a perfect fit for a new dinner theater in Ventnor’s North Beach!
